Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice
Candidate Expectations: We are seeking a dynamic faculty member to teach law and court courses within our Criminal Justice curriculum. Candidates should bring professional experience and the ability to develop and teach engaging online and in-person courses. Weber State faculty are committed to high quality teaching, and the ability to facilitate lively discussion and analysis of contemporary criminal justice issues is especially important to our students. Faculty are committed to ongoing scholarly activity, and involve and mentor students in research, service, and high impact educational pursuits. Faculty work collaboratively, through service to the department, college, university, and broader community.
Job Duties:
Required Qualifications:
- PhD in a criminal justice-related field, or JD from an accredited U.S. law school
- Teaching experience
- Expertise to teach law and court courses within a Criminal Justice curriculum
- Evidence of a research agenda and commitment to academic scholarship
Preferred Qualifications:
- JD accompanied by PhD, or advanced ABD, in a field related to criminal law
- Record of excellence in teaching at the university level
- Professional experience in U.S. state or federal criminal trial courts (open to broad interpretation)

About the Department: As part of the WSU College of Social Sciences and Education, the Criminal Justice Department includes certificates, an Associate’s degree, a Bachelor’s degree, and a fully online Master of Criminal Justice program. Faculty in the department teach in a variety of modalities (face-to-face, online, and hybrid) across the breadth of our programs, and have a 4-4 load (unless given course reductions due to service work). About the University: Founded in 1889, WSU is a dynamic learning community with six colleges that serve more than 30,000 students in more than 225 academic programs. Our student population is varied in nature and reflects the Hispanic population of the Ogden area. The main campus of Weber State University is beautifully situated at the base of the Wasatch Mountains in Ogden, Utah, just 35 miles north of Salt Lake City. Ogden is within reasonable driving distance of nine major ski resorts and a half dozen national parks.

Physical Requirements of this position: Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or consistently to move objects, including the human body. Sitting most of the time. Walking and standing only occasionally if ever.
Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision: Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading.
The conditions the worker will be subject to in this position: None. The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work).
